They have been passed around for years on recipe cards, in letters or
scribbled on napkins and cash register receipts. Those cakes with the
strange names and a million variations. I am sharing a few of them
that I picked up along the way. I thought we all might enjoy
seeing in one place. Feel free to print out and pass along, after
all, it beats writing on that stained napkin.
Dump Cake
Ingredients:
1 large can cherry pie filling
1 can crushed pineapple, drained
1 package yellow cake mix
1 cup margarine, melted
1 cup coconut
nuts, optional
Put pie filling and pineapple in 13x9 inch pan. Sprinkle
the cake mix over and pour margarine over this.Sprinkle
coconut and chopped nuts on. Bake at 350 degrees for
30-50 minutes.
Tomato Soup Cake
Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup raisins
1 cup nuts
1 cup tomato soup
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. each cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves
1 1/2 cups flour
Mix shortening and sugar; add egg and mix. Add
rest of the ingredients. Bake at 350 degree for about
30 minutes.
Wacky or Crazy Cake
Ingredients:
3 cups sifted flour
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
1/3 cup cocoa
3/4 cup oil
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tsp. vinegar
2 cups cold water
1 egg beaten
Sift together first 5 ingredients into an ungreased 13x19 baking pan.
Make 3 little wells or holes in the dry ingredients. Pour vanilla
in the first hole, oil in the second and vinegar in the third. Pour
2 cups cold water with 1 egg beaten in it over all. Mix with a
fork but DO NOT BEAT. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
Punch Bowl Cake
Ingredients:
1 yellow cake mix, prepared and baked in a 9x13 pan
1 small box vanilla pudding, prepared
1 can cherry pie filling
1 large can crushed pineapple, drained
1 large frozen whipped topping
nuts or sprinkles for garnish
Make cake as directed, cool. Cut into 1 inch cubes.
Prepare pudding. Put half of the cake cubes into a
punch bowl. Spread pudding over cake, next spread
pineapple over pudding. Add the rest of the cake cubes,
next the pie filling, then the whipped topping. Lastly
garnish with crushed nuts or sprinkles.
