HODGE PODGE DAY: DISHWASHER TIPS

Today I have tips from readers regarding cleaning dishwashers. A note on the Kool-Aid-use PLAIN, unsweetened Kool-Aid in the packets.

I have discovered that putting some vitamin C tablets into the wash cycle also whitens the inside of my dishwasher to make it look like new. I place 3 tablets into the soap dispenser and it cleans like magic! ~Margene

I have a wonderful tip for cleaning the dishwasher. I have done this now for a few years and even my repairman said he tells folks to do this since I mentioned it to him. You put 1 cup of bleach in a 2 cup measuring cup, add 2 tablespoons of Mineral Oil and the rest with water to reach 2 cups. Pour that in the bottom of your dishwasher, let stand overnight or longer, it won't hurt the washer parts. Then when ready to wash dishes, turn it on. This is advised to do once a month. It disinfects, lubricates and helps the inside of the dishwasher in many ways. The parts that run need the mineral oil and it's biodegradable instead of an oil or grease that isn't good for the dishes/us! Really, really works! ~Amy

To clean my dishwasher I put 1 pkg. of Kool-Aid Lemonade in the soap dispenser and run it through a wash cycle and it comes out clean and smelling great! ~Chris in Nebraska

We live in the South where there is a lot of iron in the water. The best thing I've found to get the dishwasher looking like new is Vitamin C tablets. For the initial cleaning , put six to eight of the Vitamin C tablets in the soap dispenser and run it full cycle. After the initial cleaning, just add about 4 Vitamin C tablets a week to keep your dishwasher looking good. ~Judy
